Meet Deets
Meet #67   |   18/09/15   |   Hosted by Phil
Our first SSWC Walking Tour around the closed and remnant distilleries of Edinburgh. And why can't a walking tour of Edinburgh also shoe-horn in a cheeky Kavalan tasting outside the Taiwanese Embassy?
Other bottles sampled:
#139 SMWS G3.8 | SSWC review 67a
#141 Kavalan Sherry Oak | SSWC review 67c
#142 Amrut Peated CS | SSWC review 67d
Smells
We didn't get a whole lot of smells. It was cold and we were outside, so it was a case of diving right in and giving it a taste.
Tastes
To be honest, we didn't get a massive pile of tastes either, but we did muster a fair few opinions! To start off, it was watery and didn't really taste of anything - or more like an inexpensive blend. The unusualness was perhaps peanutty? (which is good, but not in whisky, said the reviewer). Pork? *silence*. Was it a bit fake? Or pretty rough? Some thought it could give you a sore head the next day, while others disagreed, calling it "perfectly drinkable - like Lidl whisky". There was even a suggestion of mint toffee! - the most flavourful flavour we came up with. Most agree it's better than the selection of 70s blends we sampled on the way (the names of which were fading away - "Abbott's Fingers?" "Nun's Chuffs?").

Meet 67   |   We had a game of 'pin the pin on the distillery' whilst we sampled this.. (NB not this distillery!)   (4 photos)
Finish & Comments
Not a finish as such, but we generally concluded it was "fine" and "not detestable". It was just a bit bland, to be honest. Grain whisky at 6 years and 46% is a hard spec to please with.
Cost
~£24 (70cl)
