Imperial Distillery - Aberlour, Banffshire |
Tastes & Smells
On the nose, there's clear mint and minty garden herbs, lemon toothpaste, nail varnish remover, haystacks and ham. It's a bit gentler and light on the palate, a tiny amount of acid and slight lemon, nice and creamy also ("Thanks, Creamy!). Somewhat watery, with cress, tobacco and toffee. There's a sweet aftertaste, 'jelly baby', watery melon, cheesey.
Worth shouting about?
The taste and finish were a bit watery, and to start with I thought I didn't like it at all... it was a bit weak towards the end. But it was better than first thought, with a gentle minty toffee thing going on. Nothing great, though.
Summary & Ramblings
This was tasted in the Kilderkin, Edinburgh. It was the first time I'd seen an Imperial for sale and it wasn't too pricey - it took a while to realise it was a new distillery for me.. even in that context, it wasn't a great dram - but not a bad one in either, although it took a while to convince me of its qualities.

tldr;Minty toffee - a little too watery, but improved over time. I'd like to taste a cask strength, mayeb slightly older, version to see what it can really offer - an OK start, but nothing more.
