SMWS G7.5 Girvan 28yo
Girvan Distillery - Girvan, South Ayrshire |
Tastes & Smells
It smelt pretty good: fruity, with candied nuts and dried curry powder. Lemon drizzle cake and Victoria sponge. Also, I couldn't help feel it was a little sweaty. It's so sweet on the taste, with a lemony fizz, morphing into champagne by way of citrus and lime oil. A long finish, with a dab of sherbet.
Graintacular?
It had good smells, but was too sweet. It was nice, but not special, although it had an enjoyably long and consistent finish. I tasted this rather quickly, and those I passed it to found it enjoyable.. I wasn't blown away.
Summary & Ramblings
Perhaps the sweatiness made me think of baseball gloves, not entirely sure why... but those citrusy flavours are hard to ignore, so combining the two, this would be playing for the Angels of Analime.. It's worth noting that this cask seems almost identical to the SMWS G7.4 I tried at an earlier date, so it's interesting I've perceived a notable difference in quality. Turns out I didn't have much time to taste either of them, but this appears to be much more citrusy and less creamy - intriguing...

tldr;
Nice, but not as nice as its bedfellow (G7.4, which I'd tried at an earlier date). However, this went down well with everyone who tried it and had some nice citrus flavours and an enjoyable set of smells, so I shouldn't complain. I think the other cask was better though..
