Tastes & Smells
This was tasted with 4 other Invergordons and the nose was so rich in comparison, with really strong clotted cream fudge with perhaps a strawberry flavour, but heavy with dried fruits. Often the aromas dissipate as you withdraw from the glass, but this one took on a slightly beefy edge. When the nose was fully in, the richness became a sightly citrus creaminess lie a lemon egg pudding. My first reaction in the mouth was one of cheesey and oily sensation ('like a squeezed cheeseburger') and a big taste of pizza (in a great way). That makes it sound weird, but it was rich and sweet, with interesting flavours: Indian spices and a bustling street in India or Nepal but then an epiphany , it tasted like the smells of a Buddhist festival! Sweet and tangy in all the right ways, with a spicy (maybe mustardy) finish and an intensity that lingers for ages. Initially, this felt like a mild spicy sweetness but after consideration it was a bit spicier than that.
Any good?
It was the best of the 5 Invergordons I (blind) tasted and was big and rich. It was sweet and tangy in all the right ways and had a great balance of sweetness, richness and intensity. It wasn't without without its flaws, however, particularly with the finish where it became a bit spicier than I'd like, especially in bigger doses. In smaller sips, it kept its sweet intensity better.
Reminiscent of...
Rich and exotic, evocative of a Buddhist fesitval, in sights, sounds, tastes, everything really but perhaps one ended with a slightly over-spicy dish.

In summary:
A really intriguing Invergordon and one that I can't wait to experience at the 30/40 year stage. A great value example of what this distillery can offer.
